Sparkly Spring. {Sarajane.}

Well, it’s not often that I wear skirts. I’m much more comfortable in dresses. There’s just something about the way skirts hit my hips that make me feel like a line backer. But, I’ve been playing with the different shapes and ways to pair them with shirts lately. When I bought this sparkly number from Target I planned to pair it with an old t-shirt. I like the mix of something casual and something dressy. The t-shirt is tied in the back to make it just a little more form fitting.

Local Love: French Fryz…With A “Z” {Eric}

If you leave downtown and head down Hendersonville Road, a little past Biltmore Village, in South Asheville/Arden/Skyland you will run into a comical looking restaurant called French Fryz. It’s the kind of place where you’re unsure if you’d like it, you don’t know if you’d regret going, and you think “the bright sign and marquee is attractive but is that really where I want to go to dinner?” I’ll give you my answer to that question…yes.

French Fryz is a greasy diner kind of burger joint. Gourmet burgers? No. Delicious? Abso-effing-lutely. I love the place, but with a name like French Fryz (with a Z) I know that you don’t know what to expect. Tasty or not, It could go either way. You’re probably thinking “Who knows if they even have good french fries!” Well they do. They happen to have great tasting french fries, tots, milkshakes, and burgers. The place is always busy and it’s not because of the ambiance, I can tell you that. I’m pretty sure that the decor, or lack of, adds to the experience though. They let the food speak for itself…and I like that. Although they do host children’s birthday parties and have a special back room called The Elvis Room, which is fancy in it’s own way.

Okay okay okay, let me go on and tell you WHY I love French Fryz so much. Their Black  & Blue Burger is the best blue cheese burger I have ever had. Grilled onions, mayo, and melted blue cheese. It is dripping blue cheese and it’s impossible to not make a mess. Don’t worry if you don’t like blue cheese though because 1) It’s not a kick-you-in-the-face kind of blue cheese. It’s a bit tame. 2) They have many other delicious burgers…or at least I’m told they’re delicious. I don’t really know cause I’ve only had the black and blue, and that’s how it will stay I’m afraid to say.

If you so choose to venture to French Fryz, or maybe you’re running errands and decide to stop in, please expect great food, but do not expect the usual Asheville restaurant scene. The chefs are not James Beard nominees. The food is not local. The customers are not hippies/hipsters/the asheville elite. They are down home folk who like a good burger and shake.

So go to French Fryz and tell them you’d like Eric’s usual…and then explain what that is exactly because they have no idea who I am and what I get. But order the Black And Blue Burger, with a side of fries. And then order a Chocolate Peanut Butter milkshake. Which is fantastic and it is EVERYTHING and….well, that’s a separate blog post in itself.

Happy eating!

Life on the Internet. {Sarajane.}

A large portion of my life is on the internet.
Partially because my job requires an online presence for marketing, partially because I love to write a blog post, and partially because I really do enjoy taking photos of the coffee I drink and my feet in different locations.

There are times when I am more than grateful for the simple marketing methods I have for my business and how easy it is to maintain relationships with long-distance loved ones.

Other times, I day dream about deleting my facebook account, moving to another country, and pretending as though I’ve never existed before.

I’m certain that once my thumbs stop twitching from my iphone withdrawal I’d enjoy an anonymous lifestyle.

Reducing Dark Circles Under Your Eyes! {Sarajane.}

I have lived my entire life with a dark circle problem. I know that you think I’m exaggerating, but, up until recently if you’d given me the choice to go in public stark naked but with concealer or completely clothed minus concealer. I would have probably chosen the first option. I’ve been doing lymph node massages on myself for several weeks now and I can already tell a difference. I hope this video helps you to reduce puffiness, dark circles, or potentially even sinus pressure!

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

P.S. Obviously I’m not a licensed massage therapist. This is just something I do for myself. Don’t quote me to your friends or you doctor. Well, quote me, but, just the funny stuff.

Real Look: Hipster But Ready For Spring {Eric}

There’s nothing groundbreaking about florals for spring, as we all know. But florals are so much fun! Especially in an obnoxious hawaiian print! As a coworker of mine said, “this look is very hipster meets ‘I’m ready for spring,’” and could a man really ask for anything more?

 Tyler Deaton – who the title of this post refers to – has been in the news over the past year regarding the murder of his wife, Bethany Deaton. The two met in college and began their life in Kansas City working with the International House of Prayer. Deaton’s sexuality was always questioned by his friends and colleagues.

That trip to MorningStar was only the beginning. Before I knew it, I was diving head first into the world of charismatic Christianity. I began researching MorningStar Ministries’ leadership, projects, and missions. Shortly after that trip, I found out about MorningStar’s relationship with a man named Lou Engle and an event he was planning: TheCall Nashville.

I started making preparations to attend TheCall on July 7th of that year (2007 – 07.07.07).  I invited my friends Ben and Sarajane (yes, Sarajane Case of The 20 Somethings’ fame). TheCall was being advertised as an all day fasting and prayer event– an opportunity for individuals of faith to come together and pray, worship, and ask for God to bring justice to America. Real Look: Crop Tops and Harem Pants! {Sarajane.}

If you follow me on social media then you’ve figured out by now that I’m obsessed with my new harem pants. I could wear them every single day if I wouldn’t be judged. I still might. I’m on the fence about what’s really more important to me.The great thing about them is that they’re comfortable, on trend, and can be dressed up or down. For this Real Look I’ve decided to show you two ways to wear them. Both are featuring crop tops. The crop top trend is one that I’ve loved since it came back. Particularly because we’re pairing them with high waisted pants or skirts right now.

Both of these looks are fairly casual, but, fun nonetheless.

For the first look I wanted to go all black with gold accents except for the red lipstick.
The black, gold, and red combo is so gloriously 90’s soap opera mixed with hip hop artist that I can’t pass it up.

I Was Almost Tyler Deaton: Faith, Sex, and Dangerous Spirituality | Part I {Tyler}

Author’s Note: Here at The 20 Somethings, we like to keep things pretty simple and easygoin’. But every now and then, a topic comes along that really hits home. It leads us to sitting down, thinking, and writing it out to share with the world. Sometimes those posts can get lengthy, but that’s just the nature of the beast.

I hope you’ll read my post today about my spiritual journey and how I got involved with some aspects of faith that took me down what I now consider a dangerous path. Some of you know these stories; most of you don’t. For the sake of anonymity and out of respect, I’ve decided to change the names of individuals involved.

I was raised Southern Baptist. Good ol’, fried chicken-eatin’, goin’ to church on Wednesday night, Sunday morning, Sunday night, goin’ to visitation on Monday night, Southern Baptist. My Gran Gran helped the church raise money when it built a new building, and my Papaw was a church elder and part of the finance committee.

During Vacation Bible School at age seven,  I was saved. I remember talking to the pastor the next week with him explaining the process of salvation: “It’s like your heart is a house,” he said, “and Jesus is standing outside the front door, knocking, and asking to come in.” He went on to explain that I just needed to open the door and let him in, and I’d be forgiven of all of my sins while being guaranteed a spot in heaven. It seemed pretty simple for my seven-year-old brain. Later that year I went to “Blast Off!” — a program my church had developed for kids who were newly saved. We spent time in class on Wednesday night learning more about what it meant to be a Christian. At the end of the few weeks of Christian education, we built rockets and sent them flying into the sky. I’m still not sure what that had to do with my new salvation, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. Continue reading

Coffee Corner: Grinding for Beginners! {Sarajane.}

Hi there coffee drinkers! I’m happy to be back writing more tips on how to have a better cup of coffee at home. One of the simplest improvements that you can make for your at home coffee experience is to start buying your coffee whole bean. I talk about buying coffee and storing coffee in previous posts. But, once you’ve purchased great coffee and you learn how to store it, well, then it’s time to start brewing. Before you can brew, you need to grind!

Here are my steps for beginning with grinding your own coffee!

Real Look: Spring Fatigues {Eric}

I think I may have said this before, but I’m really into military green right now. Something about it is so classic, so urban, so SPRING. As usual, military inspired clothing is big for Spring. Camo, military green, fatigue jackets, etcetera. I don’t necessarily fall for every trend but I think the fatigue jacket is one I can get down with. Ya know why? It’s timeless. The military isn’t going anywhere, and neither are they’re jackets that we so beautifully dress up.

Judging youmilitaryRight now there are many military/fatigue jackets out there for both men and women. I suggest you buy one. As costly as they may seem ($98 at Gap, $64 at Old Navy), depending on where you get it, you’ll have it for many years to come. And isn’t that the goal with all articles of clothing? Especially coats and jackets! This jacket is from Gap and I happen to love it. It’s comfortable, it’s good quality, and the fit is excellent.

Dress it up for a well thought out look or just throw it on for comfort during the windy and rainy spring months. A military fatigue jacket, in my opinion, is a wise investment for any man or woman who wants to play with a military inspired look. Or that just needs a good jacket.

Hit me up in the comments and tell me what you think! Do you have a fatigue jacket? Seen one you like? Do you like the military-inspired trend? Let me know!
